Infectious haematopoietic necrosis (IHN) was detected second time in Åland in June 2022. The infection was found in rainbow trout at a RAS establishment in Eckerö. The virus was identical with virus that caused the epidemic in Åland Islands in 2021 (IHN in Finland 2021) and virus that occurs in Danmark. The source of the infection in Eckerö is, however, not known. The infections that occurred in summer and autumn 2021 were located far away from this infection site and fish or contagious materials had not been moved between these establishments. All the fish in the infected establishment in Eckerö had been imported from other countries.
The Finnish Food Authority has set up a restricted zone around the infected establishment. All the fish in the infected establishment have been slaughtered or culled and the establishment has been cleaned and disinfected. A two-year surveillance program has been started to restore the IHN-free status.
Restricted zone
Finnish Food Authority has established a restricted zone around the infected establishment on 22 June 2022. The map of the restricted zone is below.
