Additional requirements for dogs and cats travelling from Malaysia and cats travelling from Australia
Dogs and cats from Malaysia
Due to the risk posed by Nipah disease, dogs and cats arriving from Malaysia must have a written declaration:
- The animals have not come into contact with pigs for at least 60 days prior to export.
- The animals have not been kept on premises where Nipah disease cases have been reported in the last 60 days, and the animals have been tested for IgG antibodies using an ELISA test with negative results at a laboratory approved by the competent veterinary authority for Nipah disease antibody testing, within 10 days of the blood sample taken for export.
Cats from Australia
Due to the risk posed by Hendra disease, cats arriving from Australia must have a written declaration stating that the cat has not been in a location where Hendra disease has occurred in the 60 days prior to travel.
The certificate is issued by an official veterinarian in Malaysia or Australia and can be attached to the official health certificate.
NOTE! The additional requirements do not apply to dogs and cats transported from one non-EU country to another non-EU country through the EU territory, provided that they remain within the international area of the airport.
