Consumer possibilities to reduce mycotoxin intake

The consumer can reduce mycotoxin intake above all by eating a balanced, varied and moderate diet. Plants, whole grain and nuts are also part of a healthy diet and based on current knowledge, there is no need to restrict their use because of mycotoxins.

If there is visible mould or discolouration in whole grain food, dried fruits or nuts or if they do not seem to be in good condition, eating them is not recommended. In addition, mould growth can be prevented by storing foods at home in a dry place that is not too warm.
