Monitoring the safety and regulatory compliance of contact materials at companies that manufacture, process, import and distribute them
Risk levels are taken into account in monitoring contact material operators. Monitoring is prioritised on those operators that manufacture or process contact materials and market their products widely and whose products are widely used.
Monitoring is planned primarily according to the product, and it is prioritised based on the following:
- Direct contact materials
- Contact materials intended for small children
- Contact materials for fatty foods
- Contact materials for hot foods
- Contact materials for very sour foods
- Contact materials for long-term contact with food
- Contact materials manufactured from recycled materials
Contact materials that have been manufactured using surface biocides or dual-use substances
Process control is an essential part of manufacturing control, and it includes:
- Control of the quality management system or own-check that makes sure of good manufacturing practices;
- Process flow and critical points and control points including to the process (HACCP)
- Control of adding additives or other chemicals;
- Control of the process of recycled materials – sources and decontamination of the recycled raw materials;
- Controll of preventing set-off phenomenon, when using printing inks.
Documentation monitoring
- Inspections of safety documents like declaration of compliance, test reports, result of risk assessments, spesifications of chemicals and other possible supporting documents.
