Regulation (EY) 2023/2006 of good practices in the food contact materials operations applies to all food contact material operators. This Regulation requires operators to have a documented quality management system in place to ensure good manufacturing practice. In practice, the quality management system shall provide guidelines for quality assurance and quality control. The requirement corresponds to the requirement of own-check system coming from the Finnish food act.
Good manufacturing practice (GMP) refers to guidelines focusing particularly on preventing the set-off phenomenon of printing inks and on the management of the recycled plastics process. The GMP Regulation does not lay down any other requirements for the content of the quality management system.
The Finnish Food Agency has given instructions on the content of the quality management system/own-check system in the food contact material monitoring instructions and on Ruokavirastos website: Food-sector > packages-and-other-food-contact-materials > own-check-of-a-food-contact-material-operator.
