Once a year, Statens veterinärmedicinska anstalt (SVA), the National Veterinary Institute of Sweden, organises an interlaboratory comparison study on the detection of Salmonella in faeces samples taken from animals. Finnish laboratories are able to participate in these studies.
Samples, including 25 capsules and faeces, are dispatched by courier for testing. The capsules are added to the sample prior to the study and either contain two different salmonella serotypes in two different contamination levels or are negative. Laboratories are given a code, against which the results are presented in the final report. The SVA informs the national reference laboratory of the results of the participating laboratories.
The comparison study is liable to charge.
