Import of rodents, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and ornamental aquatic animals (including fish)

Import requirements

Imports of rodents, turtles, amphibians, reptiles (including turtles/tortoises) and invertebrates1) do not require an import permit from the Finnish Food Authority or a health certificate. A veterinary border check must be carried out when the consignment enters the EU.

A commercial or other equivalent document showing the animal's identity is required. The document shall include information on:

  • country of origin
  • sender and recipient information
  • the scientific name of the species
  • customs code
  • intended use
  • method of packaging

1)The import requirements are different for the following species: bees and bumble bees (Apis mellifera and Bombus spp.); fish of the order Agnatha and of the classes Chondrichytes and Osteichtyes; crustaceans of the subheading Crustacea

Restrictions for import

Due to monkeypox virus the import of rodents from sub-Saharan countries into the EU is prohibited until further notice2).
