The aim of this project is to form a network that combines expertise related to antibiotic resistance in companion animals from several Nordic research institutes and universities, and to plan a joint EU level research project that focuses specifically on dogs transferred from one country to another and their antibiotic resistance.
The collaboration network includes researchers from three countries and four research organizations. In addition to the Finnish Food Authority's risk assessment unit, the network also includes the Veterinary Institute NVI (Norway), the Swedish Veterinary Agency SVA (Sweden) and the University of Helsinki. The network's researchers have expertise in antibiotic resistance, especially in companion animals, epidemiology, or risk assessment. In addition to the online meetings, the network will have two workshop meetings. In the workshops, network members will collect existing information and identify knowledge gaps.
The purpose of the network is to support joint Nordic information exchange and prepare applications for EU level funding , with a long-term goal to reduce spread of antibiotic resistance and promote health in animals as well as in humans.
