Enhanced control of potato-infecting nematodes

This project will enhance the research capacity in detection of the new nematode species in Finland. Occurrence of the new nematode species in Finland will be surveyed and the races of potato cyst nematodes will be studied. Rapid pest risk assessment will be done with all potato-infecting nematode species using the new FinnPRIO model optimized according to the local conditions, which allows focusing to the species with the highest risk and potential to cause economic damage. Information will be made available to farmers and the whole potato sector. This is a joint project involving collaboration between Evira, Potato Research Institute, Natural Resources Institute Finland and University of Helsinki.
